Len, I'm sure you won't be surprised, but there's some Hebrew context around the "casting stones" incident that I've written about on the PPP blog here.

Wow! These two posts have really made me think...thank you! One verse that came to mind as I read this was John 8:7 "When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” On the other hand, King David, a fellow sinner, was not afraid to "throw a stone" at a Philistine champion who was defying the armies of the living God (1 Samuel 17) and yet was described as a man after God's own heart according to BOTH the Old and New Testament (Acts 13:22-23 and 1 Samuel 13:13-14). I am a simple man but my dad once wisely told me that often the truth is in the middle…..

Is it possible to support both. I'm not so much all about the allegiance of my country, though I do hold it dear to my heart. I'm not for war in regards for greedy gain or selfish agenda. I'm concerned that we would watch little girls be kid napped and traded into the prostituion slave business. I will take my chances before Christ at the judgement seat. why did you hit that man, I did'nt hate him but I did love that girl and I could'nt watch her treated that way anymore. going into iraq, no not a fan, though i did support it for years. but defending my kids from a murderer yes. much love pat

That is true. I think my political views somewhat determine my religious views.

I believe states are man-made and have nothing to do with God. God gave Israel judges, but they wanted a King so even the first Biblical theocracy was man-made.

Actually, Paul, in Romans 13 calls governments "God's servants", and the instructions for Kings were given in Deuteronomy, long before Israel asked for a King. Both of these things surprised me, somewhat, and have been problematic in my own soul-searching on a number of issues dealing with government.

"When Jesus speaks about doing good to our enemies and blessing those who curse you, He never gave a caveat that suggested you could abrogate those commands if the nation in which you were living decided a war was necessary." I like that one. I believe states are man-made and have nothing to do with God. God gave Israel judges, but they wanted a King so even the first Biblical theocracy was man-made.

My biggest concern with war is as you pointed out, what if there are Christians on the other side? Both feel the war is necessary in the national interest and commit a heinous offence against a brother.
