So we went through Forks, Washington today, and we couldn’t escape all of the Twilight crap for the rest of the day (and more)!
Best Laid Plans
For Day 10 (June 18, 2010) the plan was this:
Today, the plan is to strike camp and head out to Cape Flattery, the most Northwest point in the Lower 48 states. There, we should see a good deal of wildlife along the steep cliffs that drop down to the Pacific Ocean (to the west) and the Strait of Juan de Fuca (to the north). After taking in the sights along the northern coast, we will head back down into Olympic National Park to the Sol Duc campground (again, first-come-first-served) and possibly doing some hiking in the park.
What Actually Transpired
We got to sleep in this morning (8:30!), after which we broke camp and headed up to Cape Flattery, in search of Jordan’s elusive otter. The coastline and cliffs there were quite beautiful, but there were no otters to be seen/found. From there, we went up to Sol Duc, and hiked to Sol Duc Falls. Since it was near our campsite, we went ahead and had supper before heading down the mountain to Sol Duc Hot Springs, where took a couple hours’ soak in the natural hot springs and then showered (so we didn’t smell like rotten eggs), and headed back to camp.
Our supper, by the way, was Chef Boyardee Ravioli, which – reading the label – we learned gave each of us 60% of our daily grains/cereals, 40% of our daily vegetables, and 20% of our daily meats. We decided we could just eat three cans of this each day, and then catch, kill, cook and split a chipmunk for a complete camping diet. It could become the next fad diet, and we could become millionaires.
