Chapter 2 of Velvet Elvis, entitled ‘Yoke’, is about the nature of God’s word and how it is interpreted. It includes the concept of a ‘yoke’ – a rabbi’s method of scripture interpretation, along with Jesus’ yoke. It also talks about ‘binding and loosing’, the way Christian communities decide what parts of their cultural practice are permitted (’loosed’) or forbidden (’bound’).
